PLAY RATINGS

The board members have often heard about our partrons being concerned about the content of the plays we produce and whether the play is appropriate for them or their children to see and enjoy.

We as a board have agreed on the following rating system.

The Rating System

Here is what you can expect for each rating:

general-audience

A G-rated production contains nothing in theme, language, nudity, sex,
violence or other matters that, in the view of the TCT Board, would offend
parents whose younger children view the production. The G rating is not a
“certificate of approval,” nor does it signify a “children’s” production. Some
snippets of language may go beyond polite conversation, but they are common
everyday expressions. No stronger words are present in G-rated productions.
Depictions of violence are minimal.

pg-audience

The PG rating indicates, in the view of the TCT Board, that patrons may consider some material unsuitable for their young children. The more mature themes in some PG-rated productions may call for parental guidance. There may be some profanity and some depictions of mild violence. But these elements are not deemed so intense as to require that patrons be cautioned beyond the suggestion of parental guidance.

pg13-audience

A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the TCT Board to patrons to determine
whether their children under age 13 should view the production, as some material
might not be suited for them. A PG-13 production may go beyond the PG rating in
theme, violence, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but
does not reach the M category.

mature-audience

An M-rated production, in the view of the TCT Board, contains mature adult
material.
This production may include adult themes, adult activity, hard language, intense
or persistent violence, or sexually-oriented elements. Children under 17 must be
accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Generally, it is not recommended for
patrons to bring their young children to M-rated productions.

The rating of each play will be clearly marked on all posters, mailings and tickets.
Generally, TCT does not provide refunds for purchased tickets.
